The brightonSEO conference, our training workshops, our fringe conferences (the Online PR Show, the Paid Social Show and MeasureFest) and networking events will not be going ahead in April.

The next brightonSEO will therefore be 1 & 2 October 2020.

It just doesn’t seem right to bring thousands of people together with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Whilst some people might still be happy to attend we don’t want to risk aiding the spread of the virus and endangering others beyond the conference. The UK government has also just announced it has now moved to the ‘delay’ phase of their strategy which aims to reduce and delay the impact of the virus. We see postponing April’s event as being part of these efforts.

Obviously we’re disappointed but this is the right thing to do. No conference talk is more important than the health of our community and those they come into contact with so we’re doing the sensible thing. We all have a responsibility to look out for others who may be more vulnerable than us.

Whilst we were originally optimistic that we could go ahead as planned in April it’s become clear that this isn’t realistic or prudent. Speakers, sponsors and attendees have been in touch with their concerns about the event and restrictions on travel that have already been enacted. We also know that lots of you have to arrange things like travel, accommodation, childcare and time out of the office so we wanted to give you as much notice as possible so you could minimise the disruption rather than have to watch us wait until the last minute.

This is disappointing because we truly love seeing you all at our events and were looking forward to celebrating our 10th birthday with you. We’re also mindful that our events economically support lots of businesses in our local area, through our suppliers and through the connections made at our events. We hope that you’ll continue to support them and particularly look out for small businesses and freelancers here and where you are.

If you want to use your skills to help you should check out which is a crowdsourced list of data, resources and projects to tackle the virus and its impact. We know you’re a smart bunch of people and that your skills and experience could be really useful.

Plans for October’s event

We’re planning to move everything we can to our previously scheduled 1st and 2nd October 2020 dates:

These changes might take us a week or two (our to do list just changed dramatically!) so please bear with us and keep an eye out for emails from us.

We aim to make the move to October’s event as seamless as possible and are already working on ways to make it even bigger, better and worth waiting for. We’ll be in the Brighton Centre and other nearby venues and will have our usual training workshops, fringe conferences and networking events plus some other cool bits we’re excited about.

We’re also looking at other ways to help you get your SEO fix over the summer so we’ll keep you updated.

For ticket holders

We’ll transfer your ticket(s) to October automatically. You don’t need to do anything.

If you can’t make the October dates – 1 October (for the fringe and training) and 2 October (for the main conference) – you can reassign your ticket to someone else. We’ll email you with details of how you can do this yourself via our ticket system. Alternatively please email [email protected] and we’ll arrange for your ticket to be transferred to the March 2021 or September 2021 events.

If you’ve already made travel or accommodation bookings for April you should contact your provider or insurer to check their amendment or refund policies. Some companies are waiving charges for changes or cancellations and/or offering refunds as a result of the coronavirus.

If you requested a visa to attend the conference you should contact your local consulate to transfer your visa to the October dates. If you need any additional documentation from us to do this just email [email protected].

Can I get a refund?
We aren’t issuing refunds, as mentioned your tickets can be exchanged for a future brightonSEO or training course in October 2020, March 2021 or September 2021. You are also able to transfer the ticket to a friend or colleague.

For sponsors & exhibitors

You don’t need to do anything at the moment, just look out for an email from us.

We’ll transfer packages to future events and activities, we’ll discuss exactly what that looks like for you via email.

If you’ve distributed sponsor guest tickets we’ll transfer them to October’s event and let them know.

For speakers & trainers

You don’t need to do anything at the moment, just look out for an email from us.

All speaking slots will be transferred to October’s event. The broad details will remain the same and we’ll be in touch with more information as we confirm the finer details.

Andrea and Kelvin will be in touch via email in the next few weeks to confirm your availability and any impact the date change may have on your involvement.

We’re keen to hear you speak so if you can’t make it along in October we can defer your involvement to 2021’s events.
